Expert with Lived Experience: Co-Facilitator/Trainer
Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training in Learning Disability and Autism
About the role
Miad Healthcare is seeking Experts with Lived Experience (people with a learning disability and/or autistic people) to co-deliver the Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training to the health workforce.
You will work alongside a lead trainer to help staff understand how they can improve care, communication and outcomes for people with a learning disability and autistic people.
Training is delivered through a blend of:
- Virtual sessions
- eLearning support
- Face-to-face courses
- Travel to venues may be required. Full training, induction and ongoing support will be provided.

With support, you will:
- Co-facilitate training sessions using discussion, activities and film.
- Share your lived experience to help staff understand the difference good care makes.
- Help create a safe, respectful and welcoming learning environment.
- Communicate with delegates before, during and after sessions.
- Work with the training team to prepare for courses and arrive ready to deliver.
- Contribute ideas to improve how training is delivered.
Who we’re looking for
Essential
- A person with lived experience of a learning disability and/or an autistic person.
- Interested in improving health and care services.
- Willing to speak in front of groups (training will help build confidence).
- Able to work as part of a team.
- Understand the importance of confidentiality.
- Able to travel to training venues where needed.
Desirable
- Experience of speaking to groups or telling your story.
- Comfortable using online platforms such as Microsoft Teams.
- Experience working with health or care services.
